Саколла и Билли Де Вулфа, мелодраматические сцены следуют одна за другой и с трудом сочетаются друг с другом. Цельности фильму придает изобразительный стиль, выработанный Кёртизом в 2 цветных фильмах с участием Дорис Дей (Любовь в открытом море, Romance on the High Seas, 1948, и Моя мечта - твоя, My Dream Is Yours, 1949) и развитый впоследствии Дэйвидом Батлером. Этот веселый, цветастый, оптимистичный стиль, богатый живыми и контрастными красками, радует глаз и заставляет забыть обо всем остальном. Он лишает реалистичности (или ловко прячет) грусть внутри мелодрамы, выдвигает вперед хорошее настроение, крепкое здоровье, динамичность, а также некоторую беспечность. Он идеально подходит Дорис Дей, для которой и был создан. Самое интересное, что стиль этот продолжал использоваться в том же темпе, но с немалой долей абсурдности и бессознательности в таком почти полностью драматическом фильме, как Молод в душе (Young at Heart, 1954) Гордона Дагласа (ремейк Четырех дочерей, Four Daughters, 1938, Кёртиза). Таким образом благодаря своим цельности и успеху, этот стиль смог оторваться от реальности так, что потерял всякую связь с подлинным содержанием фильма. В Колыбельной Бродвея этот «отрыв» начинается уже в сценах между матерью и дочерью, которые предполагалось наделить большим драматизмом. Их визуальный ряд совершенно противоречит сюжету. В этом - характерный и странный пример голливудского формализма: стиль, созданный некоей студией для строго определенного типа фильмов, плодится и пробирается в другие картины той же студии, весьма отличающиеся от первоначальных.
